He was born on March 20, 1953 in Rome to the late Albert H. Ray Sr. and the late Onah Mae Stancil Ray. Gary was a carpenter by trade who loved being outdoors and spending time with his family. Gary was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed him. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Al Ray Jr.; his sisters, Ann Cleland and Cokie Standridge; his brother-in-law, Kenneth Cleland; his sister-in-law, Brenda Ray, and his father-in-law, Jim Whaley.He is survived by his beloved wife of 43 years, Angela Ray; his son and daughter-in-law, Josh and Sheila Ray, of Rome; his granddaughters, Amber (Lloyd) Hightower of Ohatchee, Ala., and Tabby (Preston) Alphin, of Rome; six great grandchildren and one great great grandchild; his sister, Gyalia Ray, of Covington; his brothers, Bobby Ray, of Winston, and Harold (Barbara) Ray, of Felton; his mother-in-law, Marjorie Whaley, of Rome, and several nieces and nephews.Graveside Service will be held on Wednesday, August 9, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. at Oaknoll Memorial Gardens with the Reverend Preston Alphin officiating.In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in his honor to Cancer Navigators.Miller and Richards Oaknoll Chapel Funeral Home and Cremation Services is honored to serve Mr. Ray’s family.
